3 killed in Cox’s Bazar “gunfight”

Two Rohingya human traffickers were killed in a gunfight with police at Marin Drive area of ​​Baharchora Shamlapur in Teknaf Upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Monday night.

The deceased were identified as Azim Ullah, son of Abdur Rahim of no-23 Rohingya camp in Shamlapur and Abdus Salam, son of Rahim Ali of no-15 Rohingya camp of Jamtali in Ukhiya.

ASI of Teknaf police station Jahirul Islam, Constable Mobarak Hossain, Khairul and Manik Mia were injured in the incident. 

Acting on information that a group of human traffickers were took place at the Marine Drive area of ​​Shamlapur, a team of police conducted a drive there, said Teknaf Model Police Station OC Pradip Kumar Das. 

When the law enforcers reached there, the human traffickers randomly opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back, triggering the skirmish. 

At one stage, the human traffickers fled the scene. Later, police found Azim and Salam at the spot with gunshot wounds and took them to Upazila Health Complex where doctors pronounced them dead.

The injured policemen were given first aid. Two arms and five rounds of bullets were recovered from the spot.
