54th Maltese National Day celebrated Consulate of Republic of Malta hosted a reception on Tuesday in a city hotel in a colourful and befitting way marking the 54th National Day of Malta.
Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu attended the event as chief guest. National anthems of Bangladesh and Malta were rendered at the beginning of the program. Honorary Consul General of Malta M. Shoeb Chowdhury gave the welcome speech at the program. He greeted and extended compliments to the guests on behalf of the President of Malta Mrs. Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca and Mr. Joseph Muscat, the Maltese Premier.
Shoeb Chowdhury congratulated the government and people of Malta on the occasion of the Independence Day of Malta. Mr. Chowdhury called upon Bangladeshi tourists and entrepreneurs to visit Malta for exploring the beauty, resources, business prospects and cultural heritage of Malta.
He also told the audiences about Maltese history in brief. Hasanul Haq Inu felicitated the Maltese government on its 54th Independence Day. He said that Bangladesh and Malta can work together for utilizing the commercial potentialities existing between the two countries.
Hasanul Haq Inu further said that countries like Bangladesh and Malta can take up joint initiatives to tackle the adverse effects of climate change and other environmental challenges. A cake was cut as part of the festive celebration of the National Day of Malta. Higher government officials, diplomats from different foreign missions, politicians, business leaders, journalists, academic scholars and other dignitaries joined the occasion. The program was followed by a dinner and a cultural show.
