Bangladeshi Hafiz Shihab Ullah has secured the second place in the third group of King Abdul Aziz International Quran Recitation Competition held in Saudi Arabia.
The 41st Quran recitation competition was organised at the new building of Kaaba Sharif mosque.
Bangladesh’s State Minister for Religious Affairs Sheikh Md Abdullah attended the prize giving ceremony as the honourable invited guest. Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Islamic Affairs, Sheikh Dr Abdullatif bin Abdulaziz Al-Sheikh, and Abdul Rahman al-Sudais, the Senior Imam of Haram Sharif, were also present.
This time, 146 Hafiz-E-Quran (people who have completely memorised the Quran) from 103 countries took part in the competition. Twelve contestants were awarded in different categories.
Bangladeshi Hafiz Zakaria recited from the Quran at the start of the competition.
Hafiz Shihab was given 50,000 Saudi riyals and a certificate by Mecca Governor Khalid al-Faisal. Shihab, hailing from Cumilla, is a student of Jatrabari’s Tahfijul Quran Ayas Sunnah Madrasa.
Senior Saudi officials thanked the Bangladeshi state minister for attending the event. Abdullah said Bangladesh plans to arrange Quran recitation competitions in future.
