The Standing Committee on Textiles and Jute Ministry of Jatiya Sangsad has recommended the establishment of a research institute for ensuring proper development of textile sector. Besides, it has also been recommended to expedite the process of recruitment of teachers and trainers to develop skilled manpower in this sector.
Sources informed that, these recommendations were made at a meeting of the committee held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Tuesday. Committee chairman Mirza Azam chaired the meeting while the committee members Golam Dastagir Gazi, minister of textile and jute ministry, Md. Israfil Alam, Moazzem Hossain Ratan, Ranjit Kumar Roy, Md. Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, Shaheen Akhter, Abdul Mamin Mandal and Khadijatul Anwar took part.
Secretary of Textile and Jute Ministry, Director General of Textile Department, BJMC, BTMC and Chairman of Bangladesh Handloom Board, including concerned officials of the ministry and the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat were present in the meeting, the sources also informed.
The Parliament Secretariat said that the talks were discussed about the textile sector. There are 16 development projects in the textile sector are running and other 16 projects are in progress. In the meeting, the recommendation was mad to ensure the effective service discussing with the stakeholders aiming to make the Textile Act of 2018 fruitful and more effective according to their needs.
Discussion about the BJMC took place in the meeting while information about taking several steps including payment of arrears of wages for the removal of labor unrest has been mentioned.
At the meeting, it was mentioned that a committee was constituted by the Secretary of the Ministry for speeding up the acquisition of land for the project titled ‘Sheikh Hasina Tat Palli Establishment (First Phase)’ in Shibchar Upazila of Madaripur district.
In addition, initiatives have been taken for two large projects to be implemented by the armed forces titled ‘Sheikh Hasina Tat Palli’ Establishment and ‘Construction of Sheikh Hasina Textile College’ and before taking any project according to the standing committee, taking necessary action to ensure the selection and acquisition of the land; were also informed in the meeting.
