Councillor Rajib placed on 14-day remand

A Dhaka court on Monday placed ward councillor Tarekuzzaman Rajib on total 14-day remand in two cases lodged under narcotics and arms acts.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Begum Yasmin Ara placed the  councillor on seven-day remand in arms case and seven-day remand in narcotics case.

The police produced the councillor of ward-33 of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) before court just before midnight and pleaded to place him on total 20-day remand in the two cases.

Earlier on October 19, Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested Rajib from a flat in capital’s Basundhara Residential Area.

Rab seized seven bottles of foreign liquor, a foreign-made pistol, a magazine with three bullets, Taka 33 thousand in cash and a passport from that flat.

Rab handed Rajib over to Bhatara Police Station on late October 20, filing two cases against him.
