Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda has said they want to hold the eleventh parliamentary elections in a fair and peaceful manner.
“We want a fair election. We do not want any clashes, bloodshed and casualties centering the election,” the CEC said at a meeting with the executive magistrates of Rajshahi, Rangpur and Khulna at the Nirbachan Bhaban in the city’s Agargaon area on Monday.
He asked the executive magistrates to be careful so that no unexpected situation takes place during the polls time.
Instructing them to efficiently deal with any situation, the CEC warned, “Sometimes you have to face an awkward situation that might misguide you. You have to be patient and handle the situation with skill.”
CEC Huda instructed them to coordinate with presiding officers and supervise law enforcement agencies to tackle any unwanted situation.
Four other election commissioners were also present at the briefing.
The Election Commission rescheduled the election for December 30 instead of December 23.
According to the polls schedule, the last date for submitting nomination papers is November 28. The EC will scrutinize the nomination papers on December 2 while the withdrawal of nominations on December 8.
