Expelled JL leader Samrat gets 6 months in jail

Dhaka South unit Jubo League President Ismail Chowdhury Samrat, who was arrested for his involvement with illegal casino business, has been sentenced to six months in jail.

A mobile court assisted by Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) has sentenced Samrat under Wild Life Preservation and Protection Act (2012) for possessing the skins of rare and endangered animals like Kangaroos.

Earlier in the day, he was captured from Cumilla district and later Rab members raided his office in the capital’s Kakrail area.

Samrat along with one of his aide, Dhaka South unit JL Vice-President Anamul Haque Arman, were arrested the the members of Rab-7 from a house in Cumilla’s Chouddagram upazila around 5:30 am today while Rab began the raid at 1:30 pm.

Later, the elite force members recovered illegal firearms, drugs and the skin of rare animals.
