A special court on Wednesday adjourned the hearing of Zia Charitable Trust graft case as BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia did not appear before the court.

Judge Md Akhteruzzaman of the Special Judge Court-5 adjourned the hearing of the case after the prosecution informed the court about Khaleda’s unwillingness to appear before it.

The court was set up at the old central jail on Nazimuddin Road as per the latest gazette notification regarding this.

However, the court set Thursday for the hearing on whether it should continue its proceedings in absence of the BNP chief.

Comilla arson case: Hearing on Khaleda’s bail Sept 20

Meanwhile, a Comilla court on Wednesday fixed September 20 for holding a hearing on the bail of Khaleda Zia in an arson case filed under Special Powers Act in the district in 2015, reports Daily Star.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Biplob Devnath fixed the date for holding the hearing following an application by public prosecutors, according to the report.

Earlier on May 29, the Supreme Court stayed the High Court orders that granted bail to the BNP chief in two criminal cases including the arson case.

Today, the state counsels sought more time in the case as they are yet to get the SC stay order, said Khaleda’s lawyer Advocate Kaiyumul Haque Rinku while talking to reporters at court premises.
