The election to form new executive committee of Jagannath University Debating Society (JnUDS) will be held on 7 November for the term 2019-2020.
The poll will start from 9:00am to 1:00pm at the office of JnUDS office and the result will be announced on the same day.
According to official document, a total of 26 candidates being grouped in two panels are vying for 15 seats. The total number of voters is 84.
Register of the university Eng Md Ohiduzzaman will act as chief Commissioner in the polls and other election commissioners are, Dr Mostafa Kamal, Kazi Md Nasir Uddin, Sumon Kumar Majumdar and Ziadur Rahman.
Muhammad Junaid Hossain of Public administration department will fight against Najmul Hassan Munna of Accounting and Information System for the president post.
Din Islam, student of Philosophy department and Md Hasibul Alam of Public administration department will contest for secretary post.
Others heavyweight candidates are Munni Akter of Statistics will contest for Joint Secretary, Nahid Hasan Robin of English for Finance Secretary, F.M Nuruzzaman Nion of English for Publication Secretary and Shoyeb Ahmed of Law for Organizing Secretary.
Already 2 candidates have been elected without unopposed. They are Mulham Haydar Galib of Mathematics as Vice-president and Md Jubaidur Rahman of History as information and research affairs secretary.
Talking to daily sun, president Candidate Muhammad Juanid Hosaain said, “I am hopeful about my victory in the polls as I have been involved with the organization since the first semester of my academic carrier and worked for it.”
If I am elected I will work for the betterment of the organization and to build it as number one platform for students as co-curricular activity of the university, he promised.
Munni Akter who is vying for joint secretary post said, “Number of female debaters in our organization are very poor. As female executive If I elected, I will try best to organize debaters in our university and encourage themselves to represent in the organization as now it is time for women to show ability not being a burden for the nation.”
Election commissioner also proctor of JnU, Dr Mostafa Kamal, in the JnUDS polls, said, “We are in the final stage of our preparation. There have some objection against some candidates which have been resolved successfully. Now hopefully the election will be held fairly on time and in festive mood.”
