Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Saturday celebrated its 48th founding anniversary on the campus amid much fervour and festivity.
Marking the day, the university wore a festive look as former and current students, employees, officers and teachers joined the programme with banners, balloons and festoons of different colours.
Around 10 am in front of Business Studies Faculty, JU Vice Chancellor Prof Farzana Islam inaugurated the founding day by releasing balloons and hoisting the national flag as the Chief Guest while Pro-VC (Administration) Professor Amir Hossain hoisted the university flag.
In the inaugural speech Prof Farzana greeted university teachers, students, officers, employees and the present & former student of the University.
She said, “The university has started well today. The development projects of around 14.5 billion tk is being started soon for the development of this university. We have to work together to complete this project.”
“The work of the University is to create and develop new knowledge. The goal of my administration is to build the university that can serve the world”, she added.
Later, led by JU VC Professor Farzana Islam a colourful procession was brought out from the Business Studies faculty premises and paraded main streets of the campus. The procession ended at Selim Al Deen Mukta Mancha.
However, the day-long programme included a puppet show, cultural program organized by the student welfare and counseling center of the university, staging drama and some other cultural functions at Selim al Deen Muktamancha.
ON January 12, 1971 Governor of the then East-Pakistan Admiral S M Ahsan formally inaugurated the university and the day observed as founding day of JU each year.
