Mushfiq third Tiger to 6,000 ODI runs

:: Peoples Time Online ::

Mushfiqur Rahim became the third batsman from Bangladesh to reach the landmark of 6,000 ODI runs during the second ODI against Sri Lanka at the R Premadasa Stadium today.

Mushfiqur, who struck 67 in the first ODI, needed 8 runs more to reach the mark and he clinched a single in the 15th over to accomplish the feat. While he raised his bat to acknowledge the feat, Bangladesh dressing room might not have been too happy as Mohammad Mithun fell next delivery to a soft dismissal with the Tigers tottering on 52 for three.

Tamim Iqbal, who once again failed to make a good start count, falling on 19, was the first Bangladesh batsman to reach the 6,000 ODI runs landmark. The opener took 177 matches and reached the feat against Sri Lanka last year.

Shakib reached the mark during his fantastic ton against West Indies in the recently concluded World Cup in England. The southpaw needed 202 matches to reach the landmark. Mushfiqur became the second-fastest to the landmark as he is playing in his 184th ODI match. The right-hander averages 35.93 and has 36 50s and seven ODI hundreds.
