Puts Wrong treatment varsity student’s life at risk

The alleged negligence in duty and wrong treatment by a nurse named Rashida at Gopalganj 250-bed General Hospital has put the life of a female university student at risk.

The ill-fated student is identified as Mariam Sultana Munni, a third-year honours student of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University (BSMRSTU), and also daughter of Mosharraf Biswas at Chandradigholia village under the sadar upazila.

According to hospital sources, the Social Science Department student Mariam Sultana Munni, who is now undergoing treatment at Khulna Sheikh Abu Naser  Specialized Hospital in critical condition, has been suffering from common bile duct stone disease and got admitted at the sadar hospital on Monday.

Her father Mosharraf Hossain Biswas alleged that his daughter was set to undergo surgery over her disease today but Rashida, a female word nurse of the hospital, pushed a wrong injection in Mariam’s body this morning, leaving Mariam’s life in critical.

“My daughter’s condition is deteriorated after the wrong treatment and she is now undergoing treatment at Sheikh Abu Naser Specialized Hospital in Khulna with critical condition.”

Relatives said that preparation was going on to shift ailing Mariam Sultana Munni to a Dhaka hospital for better treatment.

Gopalganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Monirul Islam has also confirmed the news.

“The female student was shifted to the Khulna Sheikh Abu Naser Specialized Hospital in critical condition,” he told the Kalerkantho English.

Gopalganj 250-bed General Hospital Deputy Director Faridul Islam said: “Stern actions will be taken against the alleged nurse if allegations against her are found true.”

“We will soon form a probe committee to investigate the incident,” he added.
