‘Robber’ killed in Brahmanbaria ‘gunfight’

A suspected robber was killed reportedly in a gunfight with police and three more suspected robbers were arrested at Jatrapur area of Ashuganj under Brahmanbaria district on Tuesday.

The deceased was Saddam Hossain, 26, son of Kangal Mia of Beparipara in Kalikaccha union under Shorail upazila of the district.

Besides, the arrestees were Akash Mia, 27, son of Shamsul Hoque of Birasar under Brahmanbaria sadar, Hridoy Mia, 25, son of Kashem Mia of Nathapara area of Shorail upazila, and Ashraful Islam, 25, son of Amir Hossain of Uchaliapara area.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ashuganj Police Station Jabed Mahmud confirmed the news.

The OC said: “Tipped-off, members of DB police,  Ashuganj Police Station and Sadar Model Police Station conducted a drive on Chapabari area of Jatrapur. Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, robbers opened fire, forcing them to fire back that triggered the gunfight.”

After the gunfight, police rescued bullet-hit Saddam and took him to Sadar Hospital where the duty doctor declared him dead.

The body has been kept in the Sadar Hospital for an autopsy.
