The general students of Rajshahi University have blocked the Dhaka-Rajshahi Highway protesting, Friday night’s knife attack on their fellow inside the campus.
Hundreds of students took position outside the main gates of the university at 12:30 pm today and blocked the Dhaka-Rajshahi Highway.
Firoz Anam, a first-year student of Economics Department, came under the attack of a gang of muggers near Habibur Hall around 8 pm on Friday.
According to the victim, three youths riding on a motorbike stopped him and tried to snatch his valuables. At one stage of a scuffle, the muggers hit him with a knife on his head, leaving him severely injured.
Hearing the cry of the victim, other students rushed in and took him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
The incident sparked anger among the fellow students and they staged protest soon after the incident occurred.
Contacted, Motihar Police Station OC Hafizur Rahman said: “We have detained three youths–Rubel Hossain, Rifat Hossain Rakesh and Parvez– in connection with mugging.”
“We are trying to bring normalcy on the campus and the agitated students will soon be removed from the highway,” he added.
