Charging 15pc VAT and Harassment of Businessmen, Strike from Sunday if the demand is not accepted

There has been no gold import in last two decades. Nonetheless demand for gold is increasing day by day. Though it could not awaken the tax intelligence department. Consequently customers will rely on neighbor country’s market, no doubt. Bangladesh Jewelers’ Samiti held a meeting for two hours in Baytul Mukarram last Wednesday. Its vice president Anamul Hoque Khan Dolon says, “There has been a plot to destroy our jewelery industry. Recent gold confiscation in Apan Jewelers was a part of that.” Unless their demand is met, they have declared for severe strike. Anamul haque Khan Dulun said that detective Director General D.Mainul Khan want to destroy the Jewelry industries. He also said, Mainul Khan didn’t keep his word. Because he said that he will take step to get final judgments . He also demanded resigned of Mainul Khan in that time.In this situation it will be great harmful for Jewelry industries. So we want to solution about this matter. W
e also demand to lessen the rate of VAT 15% on gold and other materials. FBCCI also raise their voice against 15% VAT on gold and other materials. Last 3 June 2017 FBCCI organized a press conference and FBCCI president Safiul Islam Mohiuddin said to lessen rate of VAT on Jewelry industries and said to impose this VAT only wage. Otherwise Bangladeshi seller will be interest to import from other market.
