A seminar titled ‘Participation of women in Bangladesh Civil Service’ was held on the Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus here on Tuesday.
JU Public Administration department organised the function at the seminar room of Jahir Raihan auditorium of the campus in the morning.
Pro VC of Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) and the founding Chairman of JU Public Administration department Professor Dr M Abul Kashem Mazumder addressed the function as the chief guest.
Addressing the function, he said, ‘Father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheik Mujibur Rahman had a dream to relive all discrimination. We will have to decide such way that will not promote discrimination on the society’.
Mentioning the last PSC report, he said, ‘Number of successful women candidates has declined significantly in the last some BCS exams. There, the success rate of women was noticeable.’
Secretary In-Charge of Bangladesh Public Service Commission O. N. Siddiqua Khanam presented a keynote speech on women participation in Bangladesh Civil Service at the programme.
‘Before 1990, women participation in Bangladesh Civil Service was very low. Now the participation of women in such government job is increasing day by day. They are coming to do such job by prove their qualifications.’ she said.
Chairman of Public Administration department Dr. Jebunnessa said, ‘I have never faced any problem as a woman at my job and personal life. At present women of Bangladesh are in an honorable position. So Women will have to come forward in all sectors.’
‘We have organized the seminar to create an inspiration among our students. In future, we will organize such creative programmes for the students,’ she added.
Meanwhile, Mr. Selim Ahmed, the chairman of Jalal Ahmed Spinning Mills Ltd. was honored with honorarium crest for his contribution for the poor students of the department.
He has donated 2 laks taka which will distribute among 20 poor students of the department.
Presided over by Chairman of Public Administration department Associate Professor Dr Jebunnessa, Dean of Social Science faculty Professor Rasheda Akhter addressed the function as special guest.
Conducted by Assistant Professor Md. Ashraful Haque, all teachers of the department and more than 200 students took part at the function.
