Upset BNP, looking for new faces

:: Peoples Time Online ::

BNP has taken steps to sort out the party’s efforts to eradicate the frustration of the grassroots after the ‘incredible’ fiasco in the eleventh parliamentary elections. As part, the party wants to add new faces to the standing committee to complete the full-fledged organization, the various councils of mainstream organizations and the losing compulsions of the party.

The term of the BNP executive committee ends in March. But BNP is not thinking of the national council at the moment without Chairperson Khaleda Zia in the prison and acting chairman Tarique Rahman. For the time being, the party is thinking about fulfilling the vacant posts of the committee, extending the term of the current committee.

In the BNP, the standing committee always an interesting and dignified position, commenting this, a senior and responsible leader, who is unwilling to disclose the name, told Daily Bangladesh that the targets of BNP politicians are being included in the Standing Committee, even at the last moment of lives. But the party’s chairperson’s imprisonment, and the acting chairman have long been out of the country; that’s why, there is no situation in the party to renew the national council at this time.

He said, now the acting chairman advised us to meet the vacant posts of the national executive committee including standing committee. We are now waiting for the permission of Chairperson Khaleda Zia. The process for filling vacant posts will be started after getting permission. He also said that not only five vacancies of the Standing Committee, but two or more members of the Standing Committee can also retire from politics considering the age of the current issues and the age of senior leaders. In addition to the veteran and senior leaders, the party’s high command wants to include younger leaders in the standing committee.

Talking to some of the party’s policy-makers, it is learned that members of several vice-chairmen and advisory councils are playing an important role in different issues without being a member of the Standing Committee of the BNP. Although the standing committee may not be present in the meeting. Again, there is a need to consult the important leaders and suggestions before and after the meeting. So one kind of discomfort is existing among the senior leaders who are aspiring to be placed in the Standing Committee. So it is very important to fill the vacant posts of the permanent committee of the party, senior leaders said.

Regarding the formation of the new committee, the Standing Committee member Barrister Moudud Ahmed said, the party will now have to reconstitute and rehabilitate the activists. We will have to stand beside the victim activists. Their faith should be regained and should evaluate the renowned and capable leaders. If need, we are old we will move away. Because the party has to be survived.

BNP has made the sixth National Council on 19 March 2016. According to the constitution of the party, the standing committee is elected for three years and the current committee will take up the responsibility until the next national executive committee takes charge. During the announcement of the present committee, two posts of the 19-member Standing Committee were vacant. Among the remaining 17 members, Tariqul Islam, ASM Hannan Shah and MK Anwar died. As a result, there are currently five vacancies. Except these five posts, many are known to have escaped themselves. As a result, seven to eight new faces can be seen in the standing committee.
