The road transport minister Obaidul Quader said, “Children cannot be taken on the motorcycle.”
“More than two people will not ride a motorcycle and they will have to wear helmets. This will have to be made mandatory at any cost. No compromise will be made on that,” he added.
Following an embargo on three riders on a motorcycle, the road transport minister has said no children will also be allowed on the two-wheeled vehicle.
Obaidul Quader’s announcement came at a meeting of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) on Friday.
“This is dangerous. We’ll have to show zero tolerance because it’s too risky. We’ll have to implement this strictly throughout Bangladesh,” Quader added.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Tuesday ordered police to ensure that three persons are not riding a motorcycle together.
His instruction came a day after three men, riding a motorcycle, stabbed and shot dead a decorated senior police officer’s wife in Chittagong.
Police have blamed Islamist radicals for these killings.
