Youth detained over mugging at JU

A youth was detained on Tuesday night from Jahangirnagar University (JU) during mugging at the campus area.

Some students of the university detained him at red handed from Dhaka-Aricha highway near Mir Mosharraf Hossain (MMH) hall during mugging around at 9 pm.

The detainee was identified as Sajib Uddin Mullah, hails from Dowlatpur upazilla of Manikganj district, living at Arapara of Savar near the university campus area.

The victim was – Sowrab Jahangir Siddique, a student of Biotechnology and Molecular Biochemistry who was victim of snatching around at 8.00 pm at the Dhaka-Aricha highway near at Mir Mosharraf Hossain hall.

When contacted the victim Sowrab said, ‘I was returning to campus by walking from C&B bus stoppage around at 8.00 pm. When I reached near Mir Mossarof Hossen hall adjoining Dhaka-Aricha highway, 4 muggers wearing mask swooped on me’.

‘They snatched my money bag and mobile. However, I returned back to my hall and informed the incident to my friends and other seniors. Then, I with some friends and seniors went to the place separately and tried to detain the muggers’, he said.

‘Finally, we could able to detain one of them and handover the JU Security Office’, he added.

The detainee Sajib Mullah confessed about mugging and said, ‘I with Saikat, Robin and Sujan were snatching at the area from 6.00 pm. We snatched from 6 peoples.’

Now, the detainee have handed over to Ashulia police station.

Chief security officer of the university Sudipto Shaheen said, ‘We have handed over the detainees to Ashulia Police. We also told them to increase their movement to  reduce such incident there.’
