![]() Combatting Terrorism in Chittagong Hill Tracts by deploying AI-Driven strategic Security apparatus The Bangladeshi government has been facing a range of challenges in the Hill Tracts, including mortar shelling from the Myanmar side, the influx of Rohingya refugees, and the infiltration of Kuki-Chin militants across the porous border. To address these threats, Bangladesh can harness the capabilities of installing AI-driven technologies in several key areas of the border and the remote areas of Hill tracts used as a haven to launch terror attacks. Implementing AI-powered facial recognition systems at border and hill tracts checks can greatly improve individual identification and tracking, including possible security risks. By combining these techniques with databases of known criminals and militants, Bangladesh can strengthen its ability to detect and detain anyone seeking to enter the border unlawfully or with malevolent intentions of hill tracts insurgency. Furthermore, the deployment of AI-powered surveillance drones and sensor networks can offer real-time monitoring of the hill tract area, allowing for early detection of any suspicious behaviour or prospective intrusion. It is important to note, however, that the deployment of AI-powered technologies in border security must be accompanied by robust ethical and legal frameworks. Concerns around privacy, data protection, and the potential for misuse or abuse of these technologies must be addressed through comprehensive policies and oversight mechanisms. Bangladesh can learn from the experiences of other countries, such as India, in navigating these challenges and ensuring the responsible use of AI in the border security domain. By leveraging the capabilities of AI, Bangladesh can strengthen its security presence in the Hill Tracts and better protect its citizens from the spillover effects of the Kuki-Chin uprising in Hill Tracts. This proactive approach, combined with diplomatic efforts and regional cooperation, can help Bangladesh maintain stability and security along its Hill Tracts, while also contributing to the broader efforts to address the complex and long-standing tensions in the region.
