Bangladesh qualify for AFC Women’s Asian Cup

Bangladesh have qualified for the AFC Women's Asian Cup after the match between Bahrain and Turkmenistan ended in a 2-2 draw. The result ensured that Bangladesh will finish top of Group C, regardless of the outcome of their final match against Turkmenistan.
Earlier, Bangladesh defeated Myanmar to move closer to qualification. That win took their tally to six points from two matches, placing them at the top of the group. Myanmar have three points, while Bahrain and Turkmenistan have one point each.
Having already beaten both Bahrain and Myanmar, Bangladesh secured a superior head-to-head record. As a result, the team in green and red will qualify for the Asian Cup irrespective of the final round of group matches.
Peter Butler's side took a major step toward qualifying with a stunning 2-1 victory over hosts Myanmar in their Group C qualifier on Wednesday at the Thuwunna Stadium in Yangon.

Forward Rituporna Chakma was the star of the match, scoring both goals for Bangladesh. Her first came in the 20th minute, followed by a second in the 71st, sealing a memorable win for the visitors.
This result is especially significant as Myanmar is ranked 73 places above Bangladesh in the FIFA rankings. Bangladesh began their campaign with a dominant 7-0 win over Bahrain in their opening match.
The upcoming AFC Women’s Asian Cup is scheduled to be held in Australia next year. If Bangladesh secures qualification, it would mark a historic moment, as the women’s team would join the men’s side — who made their first and only Asian Cup appearance back in 1980.
