Conquered Ganabhaban, parliament next: Nahid

National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam on Sunday pledged to conquer the Jatiya Sangsad in the next general election after allegorically winning Ganabhaban through the mass uprising last year.
Ganabhaban was the official residence of the deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina. It was taken over by students and people in a victory celebration soon after she fled to India in the face of the mass uprising on 5 August 2024.
“Our aim was to bring down fascism on 5 August. Now, our goal is to rebuild Bangladesh. On 5 August, the target was Ganabhaban. This time, our target is the Jatiya Sangsad,” Nahid said.
“We conquered Ganabhaban, and now we will win the House as well. The upcoming election will be a celebration of youth victory.”

The NCP leader was speaking at a rally at Saheb Bazar Zeo Point after holding a march in Rajshahi city as part of the party’s month-long programme “Desh Gorte July Padajatra (July March to Build the Nation)”.
Nahid, however, stressed the urgency of resolving key issues before holding the next parliamentary polls.
He said reforms must be done and the July massacre trial must be held before the election.
“We want to see the trial of the killer Hasina, implementation of reforms, and a new constitution. This generation is promising the people of Bangladesh a new democratic constitution,” Nahid added.
