Army to act as striking force during DUCSU polls
The Army would be deployed as a striking force during the elections for the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and hall unions on 9 September, the university’s election commission said Tuesday.
The announcement coincides with the launch of election campaigning by candidates on Dhaka University (DU) campus on Tuesday. The campaigning would continue until 7 September.
The Commission also said that the presence of outsiders at student dormitories will be banned a week ahead of the polls. The ban will be expanded to cover the entire campus a day before the elections, on the election day, and a day after the elections.
Metro Rail’s Dhaka University station will also remain closed during the three days.
The election commission warned that a candidate will lose his or her chance to contest in polls if found trying to undermine anyone with regards to religious identity, family background or ties to the Liberation War. The offender may also lose his status as a DU student.
