BCA Awards 2025 Honours Excellence in UK Bangladeshi Catering Sector

The Bangladesh Caterers Association (BCA) celebrated the achievements of the UK’s Bangladeshi catering industry at its annual BCA Awards 2025, held on Saturday at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel in London.

The high-profile event gathered senior British parliamentarians, diplomats, community leaders and hospitality professionals to honour chefs, restaurateurs and industry contributors from across the country.

The ceremony was attended by Her Excellency Abida Islam, High Commissioner of Bangladesh to the UK, who served as Chief Guest. Other notable attendees included Rt Hon Sir Stephen Timms MP, Rt Hon Seema Malhotra MP, Lord Rami Ranger CBE, Foysol Choudhury MBE MSP, Kevin Bonavia MP, Mike Reader MP, former MPs Virendra Sharma and Keith Best, Baroness Sharon Taylor OBE, Dr Rupa Huq MP, NRB Bank Chairman Iqbal Ahmed OBE, and London Deputy Mayor Howard Down.

This year’s awards recognised 12 chefs, 13 restaurants and honoured two distinguished figures:

M.A. Muquim, for leadership and contributions to the British Bangladeshi catering community

Baroness Sharon Taylor OBE, for promoting diversity and community engagement

Additionally, BCA awarded 12 regional chefs and 12 restaurants representing the best of Bangladeshi cuisine across the UK.

Leadership Praises Industry Resilience

Speaking at the ceremony, BCA President Oli Khan MBE hailed the contributions of Britain’s Bangladeshi restaurateurs.

“The BCA Awards are a tribute to the hard work, resilience and passion that have shaped Britain’s curry industry for more than half a century,” he said.

BCA Secretary General Mitu Chowdhury emphasised the sector’s economic and cultural impact.

“Our members have sustained a heritage that enriches both the UK economy and its multicultural identity.”

Awards Convener Atik Rahman BEM described the event as a celebration of excellence.

“It is inspiring to recognise so many talented professionals who continue to elevate Bangladeshi cuisine.”

BCA Chief Treasurer Tipu Rahman added:

“For 65 years, our members have contributed to economic growth, job creation and community development across the UK.”

High Commissioner Applauds Diaspora Achievements

In her remarks, High Commissioner Abida Islam congratulated the winners and praised the diaspora’s contributions.

“The success of the Bangladeshi catering industry reflects the remarkable impact of our community in the UK. BCA members have carried our culinary heritage forward while strengthening Britain’s multicultural fabric.”

The evening concluded with a gala dinner showcasing South Asian cuisine, followed by cultural performances celebrating the Bangladesh–UK connection.

Established in 1960, the Bangladesh Caterers Association UK is the country’s oldest and largest organisation representing the Bangladeshi catering industry. It supports thousands of restaurants, chefs and hospitality professionals nationwide.
