'If there's no fuel shortage, why long lines at filling stations?': Rumeen Farhana in parliament

Brahmanbaria-2 MP Rumeen Farhana has questioned the government's claims of no fuel shortage, pointing to long queues at filling stations.

"If there's no fuel shortage, why are drivers waiting in lines till midnight? Why are people struggling to get fuel?" she asked in parliament today (19 April).

She said the situation on the ground contradicts official statements, with lines for fuel stretching up to three kilometres in some areas.

Rumeen, a former BNP MP and now an independent lawmaker, also criticised the recent price hike and the government's overall handling of the situation.

She further questioned the effectiveness of energy-saving measures such as early market closures and revised office hours, calling them impractical.

She demanded clarity on the country's fuel reserves, asking how many days' stock of octane and diesel remain, why adequate supply is not reaching pumps, and who may be involved in hoarding.

Her remarks triggered protests from treasury bench lawmakers, leading to a commotion in the House, after which her microphone was switched off.
