![]() Businessman Brutally Attacked and Wife Abducted in Bangra Bazar The brutal incident took place on Saturday (April 18) around 2:00 PM in front of “Bhai Bhai Traders” in the market. According to eyewitnesses and local sources, around 2:00 PM, Ruhul Amin and his associates intercepted Md. Kawser Mia, the owner of Bhai Bhai Traders, and demanded extortion money. When Kawser Mia refused to pay, the attackers assaulted him with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured and bleeding. At that time, his wife, Shiuli Begum, rushed forward to save him, but the attackers took her hostage and abducted her. At the time of this report, her whereabouts remain unknown. Meanwhile, Kawser Mia is in critical condition and is undergoing treatment at Cumilla Government Hospital. Investigations reveal that Ruhul Amin is a notorious criminal in the area and a convicted offender in multiple cases. Known for frequently changing political affiliations, he was previously an active leader of Chhatra League before the change in government. Currently, he is involved with Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and is allegedly expanding his criminal network. He reportedly has over a hundred cases against him, including drug trafficking, extortion, rape, and abduction. It is noteworthy that in May 2025, he was sentenced to life imprisonment by a court for shooting and killing a rice trader in Gazipur district. Despite being a fugitive convict, he is allegedly moving freely in the area and controlling drug syndicates across the country using political influence. Due to fear of his activities, many local residents have already fled the area and gone into hiding. When contacted regarding this incident, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bangra Police Station, Md. Abdul Kader, stated that no written complaint has yet been filed. He added that action will be taken after an investigation if a complaint is received. However, when asked why no action has been taken despite Ruhul Amin’s previous criminal record and arrest warrant, the OC gave a cautious response, stating that he has recently joined the station and is not fully aware of the details.
