![]() Third-Party Instigation and Conspiracies Behind Garment Violence, Say Senior Police Officials Senior police officials have alleged that "third-party" instigation and "domestic and foreign conspiracies" are driving the violence during garment workers' protests in Savar and Ashulia. Speaking to journalists during a situation assessment visit to the industrial zone around 4:00 PM today, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Dhaka Range Md Mostafizur Rahman and Dhaka Superintendent of Police (SP) Shamima Parveen claimed that certain groups are attempting to destabilize the industrial belt despite the government setting up a wage board to address labor grievances. DIG Mostafizur noted that the newly formed minimum wage board has already begun its work. Urging workers to return to their jobs under police protection, he emphasized that the instigators' motives extend beyond labor issues. He added that intelligence agencies are actively tracking those inciting unrest, assuring that strict legal action will be taken against suspects regardless of political affiliation. He further stressed that police maintain a "zero-tolerance" policy regarding violence and attacks on law enforcement personnel. SP Shamima stated that investigators are analyzing CCTV footage, media videos, and intelligence reports to identify individuals who participated in vandalism while wearing helmets and masks. She asserted that outside infiltrators were responsible for the destruction, stating that genuine workers would not vandalize their own factories. According to the SP, Dhaka district police have bolstered security across Savar, Ashulia, Hemayetpur, and the Export Processing Zone (EPZ) since this morning, successfully preventing attacks on factories in coordination with the Industrial Police, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), and factory owners' associations. She clarified that factories currently closed had declared holidays voluntarily rather than due to security lapses, urging workers not to be misled by outside agitators. Law enforcement agencies including Dhaka District Police, Industrial Police, Ashulia Police Station, and Savar Model Police Station—are conducting separate operations and have already arrested several suspects, with total arrest figures expected later in the evening.
