![]() Padma Bridge to develop economy as well as communication The span left Mawa Construction Yard on Wednesday and reached the designated pillars in the afternoon, confirmed Dewan Abdul Quader, Executive Engineer and Project Manager (Main Bridge) of the Padma Bridge. If all goes well, the Padma Bridge is scheduled to be inaugurated on Victory Day 2021. Along with buses and trucks, trains will also run on the Padma Bridge in a two-storey system. According to economists, the opening of the Padma Bridge will change the capital’s communications with 21 districts in the south-west. This will have a positive impact on the overall economy of the country. This will increase the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 1 to 1.5%. The poverty rate will also be reduced as a result of various institutions including newly formed heavy industries. Atiur Rahman, former governor of Bangladesh Bank, said if the Padma Bridge is built, not only the development of communication but also the economy of the country will change. “People’s confidence in trade and commerce has already begun to grow. After the construction of Padma Bridge, the tourism system will also change drastically,” he added.
