![]() Businessmen called for the government's support to protect the steel industry The entrepreneurs of the steel, rod, and cement industries of the country are in crisis due to the skyrocketing price of raw materials of steel and cement as well as the disruption of energy supply at the factory. The entrepreneurs of this sector have sought the government's support In order to sustain the crisis. The Businessmen made this call during the second meeting of the FBCCI Standing Committee on Iron, Carbon Steel, Stainless Steel, and Re-rolling Industries which was held at the FBCCI office on Monday (February 13, 2023) Businessmen said that due to the shortage of electricity and gas in factories, production has also dropped to about one-third. Due to the increase in production costs, they have expressed fear of default. They asked for the government's help to overcome the crisis. FBCCI President Md. Jashim Uddin said, the steel, rod, and cement industries are important sectors. We have to pay more attention to the development of this sector. Highlighting the potential of the steel industry, the FBCCI president said that the steel made in Bangladesh is now being exported abroad. If the problems of this sector can be solved, the export potential will increase manifold in the future, he opined. FBCCI vice-president MA Momen said there is no disagreement about the problems in the steel industry. The development of the sector needs to be discussed at the national level. He advised the businessmen of this sector to use the upcoming Bangladesh Business Summit as a platform for branding the steel industry. Chairman of the Committee and Chairman of Bangladesh Steel Manufacturers Association Manwar Hossain presided over the meeting. Committee Director in charge Md. Jamal Uddin, former First Vice President of FBCCI Mohammad Ali, Director SM Jahangir Alam (Manik), Co-Chairman of the Committee, business leaders, and others were also present at the event. |
