Investigation Report Submitted to Prosecution Against Sheikh Hasina and 2 Others The investigation agency of the International Crimes Tribunal has submitted its report to the prosecution against ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and two others in connection with the mass killings that took place during the July-August uprising. On Monday, all relevant case documents and CDs were officially submitted to the prosecution. Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim confirmed the matter to People's Time. The two other accused in the case are former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun. The prosecution will now examine and thoroughly review the report submitted by the investigation agency. Based on this, a formal charge sheet will be filed with the tribunal. This is the second investigative report submitted by the administration regarding the July-August incidents. Earlier, the investigation agency filed a report against eight police officers in the Charkharpul murder case. Previously, on February 18, the tribunal ordered the investigation against Sheikh Hasina in the July-August massacre case—filed under charges of crimes against humanity—to be completed by April 20. The order was issued by a three-member tribunal led by Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder, Chairman of the International Crimes Tribunal. The directive came in response to a time extension plea by the prosecution. Additional Chief Prosecutor Mizanul Islam represented the prosecution during the hearing. On December 17 last year, the tribunal ordered that investigations be completed within two months in two separate cases filed against Sheikh Hasina, Obaidul Quader, and 46 others for alleged crimes against humanity during the July-August massacre. The tribunal proceedings allege that former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and others were responsible for ordering and planning shootings and killings of unarmed students and civilians during the anti-discrimination student movement. In response to the uprising, the Awami League government allegedly carried out indiscriminate killings, resulting in the deaths of approximately 1,500 people. The movement culminated on August 5, when Sheikh Hasina’s 15-year rule came to an end. Subsequently, an interim government led by Dr. Muhammad Yunus assumed power and decided to prosecute those responsible for the July-August massacre. |
