Artist and Former Member of Parliament Momtaz Arrested

Former Awami League Member of Parliament and popular folk singer Momtaz Begum has been arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police. She was arrested around 11:45 PM on Monday night.

According to a statement from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Momtaz Begum was arrested from Dhanmondi in the capital.

DB Joint Commissioner Mohammad Nasirul Islam told Prothom Alo that there are multiple cases against Momtaz Begum, including one related to murder. She was arrested around 11:30 PM from a house behind Star Kabab in Dhanmondi. She has been taken to the DB office.

Momtaz Begum, a renowned folk singer, served multiple terms as a Member of Parliament for the Manikganj-2 constituency representing the Awami League.
