Khandaker Abdul Muktadir has contested elections twice in the Sylhet-1 constituency but was defeated both times. Former mayor Ariful Haque Choudhury has also been active in the area for a long time, preparing to contest the upcoming election. Both are seeking BNP nominations for the next election.

Meanwhile, posters featuring the slogan "We want to see Dr. Zubaida Rahman as our Member of Parliament" have sparked widespread discussion. Some claim this signals a new equation in Sylhet's political landscape. However, BNP leaders have stated that the posters are anonymous and they are unaware of their origin.

Late Tuesday night, around 11 PM, posters with Dr. Zubaida Rahman's image began appearing across the city. These posters also feature images of Ziaur Rahman, Khaleda Zia, and Tarique Rahman. The message reads:
"The pride of Bangladesh, the glory of Sylhet—Dr. Zubaida Rahman. We, the neglected and deprived people of Sylhet, want to see her as our guardian and as the MP of Bangladesh’s most prestigious and honorable parliamentary seat, Sylhet-1."

These posters have been spotted in various locations across the city, including Zindabazar, Bandarbazar, Lamabazar, Shahi Eidgah, Sobhanighat, Subidbazar, Ambarkhana, Chowhatta, and Upashahar.
