Controversial election could push Bangladesh toward crisis: Salahuddin

Controversial election could push Bangladesh toward crisis: Salahuddin

BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed has warned that if another disputed election takes place, the country will move toward an uncertain future.
He made the remarks on Saturday at the BNP’s central office in Naya Paltan, Dhaka, while speaking at a prayer and discussion program organized by Jubo Dal to mark the birthday of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
Salahuddin Ahmed said, “Those who are raising doubts about the election through various statements against democracy are not forces in favor of democracy, nor are they on the side of the people of Bangladesh. For one reason or another, they are twisting their words in order to delay or disrupt the election. But the people of Bangladesh are united for democracy, united for exercising their right to vote.”
Referring to contemporary politics, he added that Begum Khaleda Zia is providing guidance:
“Following her instructions, BNP is moving along the democratic path through dialogue and discussion. To build a democratic state, anti-fascist forces must unite under a national consensus.”
Issuing a stern warning about the election, the BNP leader further said, “The people of the country will stand against anyone who tries to delay the election through various pretexts. Those who present misleading arguments to obstruct the journey of democracy are not forces in favor of democracy.”
