DUCSU VP candidate Jalal stabs roommate, expelled from hall
Jalal Ahmad, a vice-president candidate for the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) polls, has been expelled from the Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall as he allegedly stabbed his roommate in the early hours of Wednesday.
In an immediate action, Provost Md Serajul Islam came up with the expulsion announcement around 1am.
He said, “Steps will also be taken to revoke his studentship. In addition, a case will be filed against him.”
Jalal, a student of the Department of Television, Film and Photography, allegedly stabbed Rabiul Haq, a student of political science from the 2018-19 session, in room 462 of the hall of residence around 12:30am.
DU sources said Jalal stabbed Rabiul due to a long-standing quarrel on various issues. The victim was undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.
At the DMCH, Rabiul said, “Around 12:30am, Jalal entered the room, switched on the light, and started making a noise, which woke me up. I told him that I would have to go to the library in the morning and that his unnecessary noise was disturbing my sleep.
“At this, he got angry and called me an illegal outsider. Since I protested, he attacked and injured me. Later, I somehow managed to defend myself,” he added.
