Abu Sayed's father gives testimony at tribunal

Mokbul Hossain, the father of July Uprising martyr Abu Sayed, testified before the International Crimes Tribunal-2 on Thursday.
In the morning, the ICT-2 panel of judges, led by Chairman Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, launched the witness testimony hearing in the case. Six of the 30 accused were present during the hearing.
On Wednesday, the lawsuit’s formal proceedings began with the presentation of the introductory statement by the chief prosecutor. The chief prosecutor detailed the background and circumstances surrounding Abu Sayed’s death.
He also presented two videos of the heinous crime.
Abu Sayed was student of English department at the Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur, and a key leader of last year’s job quota reform movement. On 16 July 2024, he was shot by police at point-blank range during a largely peaceful demonstration, despite posing no apparent threat. He died shortly afterwards from the pellet wounds.
On 6 August, the tribunal framed charges against 30 individuals over the murder, 24 of whom remain fugitive. On 22 July, the state appointed four lawyers to represent the fugitives.
