![]() Hridoy-Mushfiqur stand steadies Bangladesh after early setbacks Tawhid Hridoy and Mushfiqur Rahim displayed patience and composure to guide Bangladesh to 88 for three at the close of the second day of the Sylhet Test on Friday, keeping the hosts in the contest after West Indies posted 356 in their first innings. Hridoy remained unbeaten on 29 off 80 deliveries, while Mushfiqur was not out on 19 off 56 balls. The pair added an unbroken 37-run partnership for the fourth wicket off 17.2 overs. Bangladesh, however, still trail by 268 runs in the first innings. The Tigers suffered an early setback after losing two wickets in the opening 16 overs. Makeshift opener Nayeem Hasan, who replaced the injured Shadman Islam, was dismissed for five off Jayden Seales, while Tanzid Hasan departed for 16 after debutant Kevin Wickham took an outstanding catch off Justin Greaves. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto scored 18 before falling to an excellent delivery from Shamar Joseph, leaving Bangladesh struggling at 51 for three. Earlier, Bangladesh's bowlers staged an impressive fightback to dismiss West Indies for 356 shortly after lunch. The visitors, who resumed the day at 235 for four, lost their remaining six wickets for 121 runs in 106.4 overs. Hasan Mahmud led the attack with a career-best six for 90 from 24 overs, recording his fifth five-wicket haul in Test cricket and his first on home soil. The right-arm pacer made an early breakthrough with the second new ball, dismissing overnight centurion Aamir Jangoo for 133 in the 82nd over. He struck again on the very next delivery to remove Roston Chase, putting himself on a hat-trick. Although Joshua Bishop survived the hat-trick delivery, Hasan continued to dominate, eventually completing his five-wicket haul. His other victims included Kavem Hodge, Kevin Wickham and Bishop before he dismissed Shamar Joseph for 16 after lunch. Mehidy Hasan Miraz finished the innings by trapping Jayden Seales lbw for 15 in the 107th over. He claimed two wickets for 82 runs, while Taskin Ahmed also picked up two wickets. Mehidy had earlier provided a crucial breakthrough by bowling Justin Greaves for 51 off 112 deliveries, including four boundaries. West Indies lead the two-match series 1-0, leaving Bangladesh with plenty of work to do in the ongoing Test.
