Bangladesh Bank halts dress code directive
Bangladesh Bank has suspended its internal advisory regarding professional and modest attire for its staff.
Arif Hossain Khan, Executive Director and spokesperson of the central bank, said on Thursday that no official circular had been issued and no policy-level decision was made regarding the matter.
He clarified that the suggestion for wearing modest dress was brought up during meetings at the departmental level, considering social context and maintaining professional decorum.
However, the discussions were confined to specific departments and did not reflect any central directive.
“After the issue came to the attention of the Governor—who is currently abroad—through media coverage, he expressed dissatisfaction. Following his instructions, the advisory has been fully withdrawn,” said Arif Hossain Khan.
The move is seen by many as putting an end to the recent debate and criticism within and outside the banking sector regarding the dress code discussions.
