Awami League leader and former minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain has been released on bail. He was freed from the Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj on Thursday afternoon. Earlier, he had been granted bail in all the cases filed against him.

Keraniganj Jail superintendent AKM Masum told reporters that Mosharraf Hossain had been receiving treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital under prison supervision. After receiving the bail documents, the prison guards assigned to him were withdrawn around 5:30 pm today.

Mosharraf Hossain was arrested on October 27 last year from the Vatara area of the capital. On August 5 this year, he fell seriously ill and was first admitted to the prison hospital, and later to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital.

He faced at least 12 cases and was granted bail in each of them over time. Following his bail in the last case filed with Paltan Police Station, he was released.

Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, a seven-time elected Member of Parliament from Chattogram-1 constituency, served for a long period. He held the portfolios of Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister as well as Housing and Public Works Minister. In the 2024 national elections, his son, Mahbubur Rahman Ruhel, was elected as MP from the same constituency.
