India’s Trinamool Congress MP and actor Mimi Chakraborty, who was jabbed at a fake Covid vaccination drive in Kolkata recently, has reportedly fallen ill, with dehydration and stomach pain on Saturday. However, doctors are yet to ascertain whether her illness is a consequence of the fake dose she received or not.

A close aide of Chakraborty said, “She is suffering from severe dehydration, low pressure and stomach cramps. Mimi already had gallbladder sludge and sluggish liver and was under medication. She is stable now.”

The TMC MP from Jadavpur was feeling unwell since Friday night, sources said. She fell unconscious after sweating profusely and had to be given medical attention.

According to sources, Mimi Chakraborty’s condition is now stable and she is under treatment at her residence. The doctor who attended to her said her illness “cannot be immediately linked to the fake vaccine”.

Chakraborty was invited to attend the vaccine camp by its promoter Debanjan Deb, who posed as an IAS officer to run similar fraudulent vaccination drives across Kolkata. The actress became suspicious about the vaccination process after not receiving any customary SMS, which is sent to everyone who takes a vaccine. She informed the Kolkata Police which led to the scam being unearthed. The accused, Debanjan Deb, was then arrested.

Later, Chakraborty said, “I was willing to go there and encourage others to take the vaccine.” After taking the vaccine, she enquired about the vaccination certificate that should have been available soon after. “They told me I’ll receive a text message in some time. Despite apprehensions, I waited it out. Later that afternoon, I reached out to them again. I was told I’ll get the certificate in 3-4 days.” Then, Chakraborty informed the police and subsequently her office staff to close the camp.

On Saturday, the state health department also set up an expert committee of doctors that will examine all the persons who took jab from this fraudulent group.
