The procession held in the capital to celebrate the Bengali New Year, organized by the Faculty of Fine Arts of Dhaka University, has been renamed.
The new name of the procession will be "Barshoboron Anondo Shovajatra" (Joyous New Year Celebration Procession). Previously, it was known as "Mongol Shobhajatra".

This information was announced at a press conference held today (Friday) at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Dhaka University. The press conference was organized to share details regarding the celebration of Pahela Baishakh and Bengali New Year 1432.

Since 1989, the Faculty of Fine Arts has been organizing this procession on Pahela Baishakh. Initially, it was called "Anondo Shovajatra" (Joyous Procession).
During the anti-autocracy movement in the 1990s, the procession was renamed "Mongol Shobhajatra" to symbolize the call for well-being by driving away evil.

On November 30, 2016, UNESCO recognized Mongol Shobhajatra as part of the world’s intangible cultural heritage.
