Trump's Response to India's Attack: U.S. President Donald Trump has described India’s missile strikes on various locations in Pakistan as “disappointing.” He made the remarks in response to a reporter's question regarding the ongoing conflict between the two countries. Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General António Guterres has expressed deep concern over the attacks. India launched missile strikes on several cities in Pakistan-administered Azad Kashmir and Punjab after midnight on Tuesday. According to Pakistan’s military, at least 8 people were killed and 35 injured in the attacks. Speaking to reporters, President Trump said, “It’s disappointing. We heard the news just as we were walking out of the Oval Office.” He added, “I think, based on past history, people sensed something was going to happen. They (India and Pakistan) have been fighting for a long time.” Trump expressed hope that the ongoing crisis would be resolved very soon. Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed deep concern over India’s military operation in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir. He urged both India and Pakistan to exercise maximum restraint. In a statement, UN Secretary-General's spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said Guterres is deeply worried about India’s military operations along the Line of Control and the international border. The statement stressed that the world cannot afford a military conflict between the two nuclear-armed nations. India carried out missile strikes in Kotli, Bahawalpur, Muridke, Bagh, and Muzaffarabad in Pakistan around midnight. Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, stated that Pakistan has already begun retaliatory action. The strikes come amid heightened tensions between the two nuclear powers following the April 22 attack by gunmen on tourists in Pahalgam, Indian-administered Kashmir, which killed 26 people. India has named the operation “Operation Sindoor.” Indian military officials stated that they did not target any Pakistani military installations. Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif told ARY News that the attacks targeted civilian areas. He said, “The cowards launched the attacks from within their own airspace. They never even left their own borders. Let them come out, we will give an appropriate response.” When asked about Pakistan’s response plan, Khawaja Asif said Pakistan would retaliate. “Our response will be much larger in scale than their attack. They didn’t just strike civilians — they did it without even crossing their own airspace,” he added. |
