BCB Concerned Over Rishad and Nahid in Pakistan Amid India's Attack

BCB Concerned About Rishad and Nahid Amid Rising Tensions Between India and Pakistan

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had granted permission to three cricketers to participate in this year's Pakistan Super League (PSL). Among them, Liton Das traveled to Pakistan but returned home before the tournament began due to an injury. However, leg-spinner Rishad Hossain (playing for Lahore Qalandars) and pacer Nahid Rana (playing for Peshawar Zalmi) are still in Pakistan.

BCB has suddenly become concerned about their safety following recent escalations. Late Tuesday night, amid heightened tensions after an attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, India launched missile strikes on six locations in Pakistan, killing at least eight and injuring 35. In retaliation, Pakistan carried out counterstrikes the same night.

When asked about the situation of the two Bangladeshi cricketers, BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury Sujan told People’s Time, "We’ve spoken with the players and the Bangladeshi High Commissioner. We’re also in contact with the PCB. They (Rishad and Nahid) are currently safe."

Even though the players are safe for now, the BCB remains "concerned" about their security, Nizamuddin added. When asked if they plan to bring the players back home, he said, “It depends on the situation. This is a recent development, and we don’t yet have a clear picture.”

So far in this season’s PSL, Rishad Hossain has played five matches and taken nine wickets. Nahid Rana, who traveled to Pakistan after playing in the first Test against Zimbabwe, has not yet appeared in a match.

Bangladesh is also scheduled to play five T20Is against Pakistan later this month. The team has been preparing for the tour with a three-day camp in Mirpur. However, uncertainties now loom over whether the series will take place or where it will be held. According to the BCB CEO, no decision has been made yet regarding the series.
