'Will make you disappear like Munia' — Tawhid Afridi threatens victim
Popular content creator Tawhid Afridi and his father Nasir Uddin Sathi have long faced allegations of fraud, abuse and blackmail. A recent investigative video report published by Crime Edition detailed Afridi’s alleged misconduct — from forcing YouTubers and bloggers to campaign for the Awami League government during the July Movement to various forms of exploitation.
But among these revelations, his relationship with college student Mosarat Jahan Munia has drawn the most attention. Leaked phone conversations and testimonies from victims suggest that Afridi’s ties with Munia went beyond a personal relationship, giving a new dimension to the mystery surrounding her death.
The report said that during the July Movement, Afridi threatened some of the country’s leading content creators and tried to compel them to work in favor of the government. He also faces accusations from several women of luring them into physical relationships with false promises of marriage.
One woman, speaking anonymously, said Afridi suddenly abandoned her after a long relationship and later threatened her with “disappearance” through the Detective Branch (DB) office. She added that her dream of marriage was shattered when she discovered Afridi was simultaneously involved with other women, including Munia.
“When I confronted him, he reacted very badly,” she said. “At one point, he even said that what happened to Munia would also happen to me — indirectly giving me a death threat.”
According to the report, this testimony led to the discovery of several phone records showing Afridi’s visits to Munia’s flat and their intimate conversations. When matched with another woman’s statement, investigators suggest the case surrounding Munia’s death could take a different turn.
In multiple leaked calls, Afridi and Munia are heard making late-night plans, joking about relationships, and even Afridi admitting to being drunk before visiting her.
Police records show Afridi is currently implicated in two separate criminal cases. One case filed at Jatrabari Police Station accuses him of planning and carrying out the killing of protester Asadul Haque Babu during the July Movement. Another case at Badda Police Station alleges that on July 20, 2024, Afridi fired indiscriminately at demonstrators under the Middle Badda flyover using illegal firearms.
