![]() Anger and Controversy Surrounding the Full Jubo Dal Committee, Allegations of Depriving Dedicated Leaders After a long wait of 23 months, the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal has announced its 151-member full central committee. However, within hours of the committee’s publication, a wave of dissatisfaction, anger, and criticism emerged across different levels of the organization. Some leaders and activists have also alleged that certain individuals secured positions through lobbying and influence. The full committee was announced on Thursday (June 4) through a press release signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi. Earlier, on July 9, 2024, a six-member partial committee was formed with Abdul Monayem Munna as President and Nurul Islam Nayon as General Secretary. Following the announcement, leaders and activists from various levels of the organization claimed that many dedicated leaders who had actively participated in political movements, endured attacks, lawsuits, and repression over the years were not properly evaluated. They alleged that personal loyalty, lobbying, and the influence of certain groups were given greater importance than organizational competence and sacrifice. According to party sources and discussions with activists, those reportedly left out of the committee include Humayun Kabir, Mizanur Rahman Sohag, Mehbub Masum Shanto, Suman Dewan, Faruk Hossain, Asad Titu, Sultan Mahfuz, Mamun Khan, H.M. Rashed, Riad Iqbal, Saiful Islam, and several others. Their supporters argue that despite years of political struggle and various forms of persecution, they were not included in the new committee. In particular, the exclusion of former Acting President of Dhaka College Chhatra Dal, H.M. Rashed, has generated significant discussion among party activists. Supporters claim that he has faced multiple attacks and legal cases and has remained actively involved in party movements for a long time. Additionally, former Central Vice President of Chhatra Dal Mamun Khan, former Assistant Organizational Secretary of Cumilla Divisional Jubo Dal VP Tajul Islam, former Central Vice President of Chhatra Dal Tabibur Rahman Sagar, Saiful Islam, and former Assistant Organizational Secretary of Barishal Divisional Jubo Dal Suman Dewan were also not included in the new committee. Questions have also been raised regarding several appointments in the newly announced committee. Critics allege that some important positions have been given to individuals who have no notable record of organizational contributions within BNP or its affiliated bodies. Particular attention has been drawn to Arifur Rahman Sohel, who was appointed as an Assistant Organizational Secretary. Critics claim that despite not having held any significant organizational position previously, he was given an important role in the central committee. Meanwhile, a newly appointed Joint Secretary of the committee, speaking on condition of anonymity, alleged that many leaders who had spent years on the front lines of political movements and suffered arrests and persecution were overlooked. At the same time, some inactive individuals were awarded important positions. He further claimed that personal relationships and lobbying were given greater weight than organizational skills, sacrifice, and contributions to political movements. The issue has sparked widespread discussion and criticism at various levels of the organization. Many believe that the current committee lacks proper balance between senior and junior leadership and that some inactive or less active individuals have been prioritized over long-serving grassroots leaders. According to them, this has created disappointment among dedicated and tested party activists. Attempts were made several times to contact Jubo Dal President Abdul Monayem Munna for comment, but no response was received. However, if the central leadership of Jubo Dal provides an official statement regarding the allegations, it will be added later.
