![]() Garment Operations Disrupted in Ashulia and Savar as Four Factories Declare Holiday Amid Unrest Four garment factories in the industrial belts of Ashulia and Savar declared holidays on Tuesday following fresh labor unrest, while workers at more than 15 other factories halted work after entering their premises, according to Industrial Police. Mohammad Mominul Islam Bhuiyan, Superintendent of Ashulia Industrial Police-1, stated that the four establishments had initially opened in the morning but subsequently announced holidays over concerns of renewed protests. He added that workers at over 15 factories in the Narsinghpur area ceased work shortly after reporting for duty. The disruptions follow Monday's widespread closures, during which factory owners suspended operations or declared general holidays at 264 factories across Ashulia and surrounding Savar areas as garment workers demonstrated for a Tk 30,000 minimum monthly wage. Mominul noted that many of the 264 factories closed on Monday did not reopen on Tuesday, though the total count of closed facilities is still being compiled. Despite the ongoing disruptions at certain facilities, police reported that the broader situation in the industrial zones remained normal, with workers seen entering various factories in Savar and Hemayetpur between 8:00 AM and 10:30 AM.
