![]() First ever Jewelry Expo begins March 17 The three-day expo will also focus on excellence of local goldsmiths and jewelry products at International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in the capital, according to media briefing of Bangladesh Jewelers Samity (BAJUS) held on Wednesday. Marking the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the apex trade body for gold businesses organises the mega event. BAJUS standing committee chairman Uttam Banik briefed media while vice presidents Gulzar Ahmed, Anwar Hossain and Dewan Aminul Islam Shahin were present at the press meet at Bashundhara City Shopping Mall in the capital. Regarding the Jewelry Expo, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said the initiative from BAJUS will contribute for successful implementation of the Vision 2041 under leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. “Bangladesh will emerge as a developed country within 2041 if we can continue the present growth of economy. And we need the potential Jewelry sector besides use in the development journey,” he said. In a statement, BAJUS President Sayem Sobhan Anvir hoped the expo will enrich the jewelry industries to fulfill the local demand. “It (the expo) will also lead Bangladesh to a leading position in export market of gold and byproduct of the yellow metal. The contribution to GDP from the sector will reach satisfactory level,” he said. BAJUS Vice President Anwar Hossain there is huge demand of hand-made ornaments of Bangladesh across the world. “Our goldsmiths have unique excellence in making of gold jewelry. Around 80 percent of goldsmith works on hand-made ornament is Bangla-speaking. We desire to host a jewelry expo for long time to project the innovations. As Bashundhara Group Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anivir took over the presidency of BAJUS, the gold businessmen get a liveliness in the sector,” he said. BAJUS’s expo standing committee chairman Uttam Banik said there will be different arrangements for upholding local industries including fashion show at the three-day expo. “We want to introduce new design of jewelry at the expo. Besides, industry leaders from home and abroad will share knowledge for development of the sector,” he said. Assistant Secretary Narayan Chandra Dey and Executive Member Uttom Ghosh were also present in the press meet. The expo arena will open from morning 10 tonight 8 pm during the timeline.
