Will give 'no concession' on reform implementation before polls: Nahid

Will give 'no concession' on reform implementation before polls: Nahid

NCP will "absolutely give no concessions" on implementing state reform measures ahead of general elections, warned the party’s chief Nahid Islam at an event on Tuesday.

“It has been one year since the uprising. I have done a lot of calculations. Our aspirations have not been fulfilled. Over the past year, the National Citizens’ Party has made concessions. Now we will not make any more. We will take part in the election only after establishing the objectives of the July Declaration,” said Nahid Islam, convener of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP), at the National Youth Conference 2025 at the Krishibid Institution (KIB) in the capital on Tuesday (August 12).

He further said that as part of national defense, the youth must be developed. They should be given military training and made partners in the people’s defense of Bangladesh. The youth must always be kept ready to safeguard the country’s sovereignty.

Nahid Islam said, “Now, the power that this youth holds—the power that still exists among Bangladesh’s youth after the mass uprising—how much we will use that power, how much the state will use it, that is a decision we must make ourselves. The promises, the commitments we have made to the youth of this country and to the people—inshallah, we will fulfill those commitments.”

He said a wave of national youth power has spread across the country, which was seen during the July March. Organizers of the national youth force in almost every district of the country assisted us in the July March and brought young people into it.

Commenting that all arrangements were made to thwart the 2024 mass uprising, Nahid Islam said, “The equation is not over yet. Those who think they have figured it all out already are on the wrong path. Over the past year, we made concessions, we made concessions in the July Declaration—but not even one percent will be conceded in the July Charter.”

Warning that another “1/11” will come if unity is not maintained among themselves, he said, “We want an election. But it must come through change. Not a single drop of concession will be made in the July Charter. Unless promises are fulfilled, no political party will be able to come to power.”
