March for Gaza: The Request Azhari Made to the Khatibs

March for Gaza: The Request Azhari Made to the Khatibs

A rally organized by the Palestine Solidarity Movement Bangladesh is set to take place at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital. Popular Islamic scholar Mizanur Rahman Azhari has called on everyone to join the event.

As today is Friday and Muslims gather for Jummah prayers, Azhari has made a special request to the khatibs (Friday sermon leaders). He urged them to encourage the worshippers during the Friday sermon to participate in the “March for Gaza.”

In a Facebook post on Friday afternoon, he wrote:
"A respectful request to all honorable khatibs—please encourage worshippers during today’s Friday khutbah to take part in the ‘March for Gaza.’”

Meanwhile, Shaykh Ahmadullah, Chairman of As-Sunnah Foundation, has issued important guidelines for participants of the “March for Gaza.” In a Facebook post, he wrote:

“We are on the brink of what could literally be an unprecedented mass gathering in the history of Bangladesh, involving people from all walks of life, professions, and political beliefs. To ensure the success of this initiative, we must commit to following certain guidelines.”

Adopt a cooperative and volunteer mindset. Treat the event as your own and take personal responsibility to make it successful. Keep the path to the rally and the venue clean. Carry personal essentials such as water, umbrella, and mask. In case of medical emergencies, seek help from the volunteer medical team and ambulance services. Remain calm in all situations. Be conscious of maintaining law and order, and fully cooperate with law enforcement and volunteers in the event of any untoward situation. Avoid any display that could harm the country’s image. Express solidarity by carrying only the flags of Bangladesh and Palestine, and use creative banners and placards without any political or group symbols. Identify those who seek to incite violence or damage public and private property as conspirators. Work together with law enforcement to prevent such actions. And always remember: injustice cannot be fought with another injustice.
