The National Citizens' Party (NCP) staged a protest march on Tuesday in Rupnagar, Dhaka, demanding the arrest of SI Tutul, a leader of the Volunteer League, over an alleged attack on NCP leaders and activists. Following the march, members of NCP and the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement gathered at Mirpur-10 roundabout and continued their protest.

According to leaders from NCP's Mirpur zone, on Monday night, SI Tutul—former general secretary of the Thana Volunteer League—and his associates allegedly attacked leaders and activists of NCP and the Democratic Student Council in the Rupnagar Thana area. As a result, NCP representatives Shariful Islam and Shamim Ahmed sustained serious injuries and are currently being treated at Suhrawardy Hospital in Dhaka. Additionally, Mahin Ahmed, central joint convener of the Democratic Student Council, and five others were injured.

At the protest, NCP’s senior joint convener Ariful Islam Adib stated, “In the new Bangladesh following the uprising, terrorism, extortion, and land grabbing must be eradicated from politics. There should be no place for terrorists and their protectors in politics. SI Tutul must be arrested and expelled from the BNP. We appeal to Tarique Rahman—stop the terrorists, or they will destroy the BNP.”

The protest was also attended by NCP’s central joint organizing secretary Akram Hossain, organizer M.M. Shoaib, members Imran Naeem and Zayed Bin Naser, and injured Democratic Student Council leaders Mahin Ahmed and central co-spokesperson Fardin Hasan.
