Bogura is Being Added as a New City Corporation in Bangladesh; Public Notification Issued

A public notification has been issued regarding the addition of Bogura as a new city corporation in Bangladesh.
On Sunday (April 27), Deputy Commissioner Hosna Afroza issued the public notice.

In the notification, she stated that following a letter received on April 10, a public announcement is being made to establish Bogura City Corporation by incorporating the mouzas (revenue areas) under the 21 wards of Bogura Municipality. If anyone has objections regarding this matter, they are requested to inform the District Administration within the next 30 days.

It is noted that former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled the country on August 5. Afterward, demands for the development of Bogura were raised with the new administration, prompting Deputy Commissioner Hosna Afroza to submit a proposal. Since then, the process of forming the city corporation has progressed significantly. On April 10, the Local Government Division sent a letter requesting the issuance of a public notice and the collection of public opinions for the final report.

According to sources from the Bogura Municipality, it was established in 1876. In 1981, it was upgraded to a "Category A" municipality. Over time, its area expanded to 14.76 square kilometers by 2000. In 2004, it was further expanded to 69.56 square kilometers.
Currently, Bogura Municipality, consisting of 21 wards, covers nearly 70 square kilometers. To qualify as a city corporation, a minimum area of 25 square kilometers is required. The population stands at around one million. However, in reality, the municipality hosts an even larger population and its area is greater than that of many other city corporations in the country.
